Scotch College Adelaide, in partnership with the Purruna Spencer Newton Centre and YMCA, is excited to launch the Purruna Swim Team, South Australia’s newest Swimming SA affiliated club.
Fostering a love for competitive swimming, the Purruna Swim Team represents more than a swim program—it reflects a commitment to nurturing each individual swimmer. Drawing inspiration from the Kaurna word ‘Purruna’, meaning mind, body, and spirit, the Purruna Swim Team inspires swimmers to reach their full potential, both in and out of the water.
“The launch of the Purruna Swim Team reflects our dedication to empowering young people, both within and beyond our College gates,” said Club President and Principal of Scotch College, Mr Trent Driver. “This inclusive program welcomes swimmers of all abilities and backgrounds to explore their potential in a supportive environment where every individual feels valued and inspired.”
Under the leadership of Head Coach Simon Watkins, who brings over 26 years of coaching experience and a proven track record of developing swimmers from grassroots to international competition, the program includes regular squad sessions, skill development, and opportunities to compete at state, regional, and national levels.
Training will be held in the Stephen Norris Family Aquatic Centre in the Purruna Spencer Newton Centre. Officially opened in February 2023, this state-of-the-art 8-lane, 25m indoor aquatic facility provides an exceptional environment for swimmers to develop their skills. The Purruna Swim Team is committed to fostering a love of swimming and supporting swimmers’ growth both in and out of the pool.
